The Tamenglong district hospital in collaboration with District Health Society Tamenglong and Shija Hospital Imphal on Saturday conducted a free screening of cleft lip, palate and congenital heart disease at district hospital Duigailong, Tamenglong Headquarters.
Interventional paediatric cardiologists Dr Pankaj Gupta led a team of eight doctors in providing the screening for clefts, heart diseases and other defects at Tamenglong district hospital.
Of the 11 patients who underwent screening, one was selected to undergo a free heart surgery.
Chief medical officer Tamenglong Dr Chambo Gonmei thanked the district administration and doctors’ team from Shija hospital Imphal for taking care of heart patients of the district.
Gonmei said that many registered for screening but only 11 patients were screened. He said patients even from far flung areas of Tousem district came for the free screening.
The CMO urged all citizens of Tamenglong to attend such events as surgeries elsewhere involve huge amounts of money which the poor cannot afford.
