The Thadou Youth Association Joint Headquarters, Sadar Hills on Friday decided to call off the bandh imposed on on public transport and passenger buses along National Highway-2 after a joint meeting in Kangpokpi.
The association had imposed bandh on public transport-passenger buses along NH-2 since Thursay midnight, citing unjustified fare hike and non-implementation of the orders of Directorate of Transport for reduction of public transport fares to normal rates by the DC Kangpokpi and passenger buses plying along NH-2 within Kangpokpi district.
The joint meeting chaired by Somorjit Salam, DC Kangpokpi, was attended by Addl.SP(Ops), Kangpokpi, Lalminlen Misao, SDC(HQ) Shyam Kumar, TYA-Jt.Headquarters Sadar Hills leaders, Kangpokpi-Imphal Medium Bus Owners' Welfare Society (KIMBOWS) leaders and leaders of various other student bodies who have expressed endorsement to TYA, including KSO Sadar Hills, KomRem Students' Union, Sadar Hills and Gorkha Students' Association Sadar Hills.
After a lengthy discussion and deliberation of various issues and problems, it finally came to an understanding and the TYA-Joint Headquarters Sadar Hills decided to called off the bandh with immediate effect.
TYA Joint Headquarters Sadar Hills said that public transport fares have been agreed as followed. Imphal to Motbung - Rs.40; Imphal to Saparmeina - Rs.50; Imphal to Kalapahar - Rs.60 and Imphal to Kangpokpi - Rs.70.
It also warned that in case of violation of the agreement and understanding, if any responsible authorities are found hiking the fares at their whims and fancy, TYA Jt.Headquarters Sadar Hills will take extreme course of action. It will also strictly monitor the fare taken by the concerned authority, it said.
Meanwhile, the Association expressed heartfelt gratitude to all who have endorsed and supported its movement in te public interest and urged to continue in the future.
