Nagaland Rockslides: Home department issues travel advisory

Alternate route for movement of medium and light vehicles only.

In view of heavy rockslides between Chumoukedima Police Check post and New Chumoukedima village on National Highway-29 in Dimapur district, the Nagaland Home department has informed that the road stretch from Chathe River Bridge (Patkai Bridge) to Kukidolong has been closed from February 2 onwards till further orders, as a precautionary measure to prevent any injury, loss of life and damage to property.

"Anyone wishing to travel from Dimapur to Kohima/Manipur in a light and medium vehicle is hence advised to take the alternative route via 7th Mile (Chumoukedima)-New DC office-Shokhuvi-Razaphe-Mhaikam-Pimla-Mhainamtsi-Jhornapani-Medziphema, and vice versa," the home department stated.

The home department further informed that the above route is only for the movement of medium and light vehicles.

"Heavy vehicles will not be permitted to travel on this route. Hence, for the time being it is advised to all concerned that arrangements may be made for moving all heavy vehicles carrying essential commodities towards Kohima and Manipur through Merapani-Doyang-Wokha (NH -2)-Kohima route, the department said, adding that heavy vehicles coming from north of Assam bound for Kohima and beyond may also take the same route.

It may be mentioned here that at least three persons were injured and four vehicles damaged in a rockslide near T L Park Area, between Chumoukedima and Kukidolong on NH-29 on Tuesday.
