India's daily new COVID-19 cases drop to 8,635, lowest in eight months

As many as 94 daily deaths were recorded in India on Monday.

With 8,635 new coronavirus cases in a span of 24 hours, India recorded the lowest single-day spike in eight months, pushing the total caseload to 1,07,66,245, Union Health Ministry stated.

The daily deaths also fell below 100 after almost nine months, the ministry stated.

"The country has reported less than 100 daily deaths in the last 24 hours, lowest in eight and half months," the ministry said.

The death toll reached 1,54,486 with 94 more fatalities while as many as 1,04,48,406 people have recuperated from the infection, including 13,423 new recoveries.  

While the national recovery rate surged to 97.05 per cent, the COVID-19 case fatality rate has dropped to 1.43 per cent, the ministry added.

The COVID-19 active caseload also dipped further to 1,633,353 on Tuesday, which comprised 1.52 per cent of the total caseload.

Meanwhile, a total of 39,50,156 beneficiaries have received the vaccination under the countrywide COVID19 vaccination exercise till 8 am of February 2, of which 1,91,313 healthcare workers were vaccinated across 3,516 sessions on Monday, according to the ministry.
