A joint student body of Rongmei Naga Students’ Organisation Manipur, All Inpui Students’ Union, Liangmai Naga Katimai Ruangdi and Zeme Students’ Organisation Manipur on Saturday declared to support the total indefinite bandh  proposed by Konsakhul area JAC  along all National Highways and National Projects from midnight of January 30.

In a joint statement, the student bodies urged the chief minister to consider the legitimate demands of KAJAC, intervene and rename the NSU Haraothel as National Sports University Konsakhul.

They said that they welcomed the National Sport University (NSU) in the state and urged to make the much awaited project complete in time and without any further disturbances.

It stated that after a serious prolonged deliberation on the matter, the joint students’ body found their grievances and demands true and legitimate.

The body is satisfied and without any disarray, resolved to extend all best possible support to the declared indefinite bandh from the midnight of January 31 along all National Highways and National Projects, the statement added.

“We laud the government of Manipur under chief minister N Biren Singh for discharging all best possible services to the people of the state. The pace of change and development taking place in the state are incredible. We wish the present government the very best even in future in the service of the people,” it stated.

The present BJP led government under CM N Biren Singh has brought the prestigious NSU in the state, most importantly in the hills village of Konsakhul, it stated. It is also known to all men since times immemorial, the present site of NSU  belongs to Konsaram (Konsakhul), under the then Senapati district, to which none can deny, it added.

“However, the ignorant ways of the hill men (tribals community) have been taken advantage of by some sections. Original owner of the project site was not consulted and bypassed by giving permission for construction of the much applauded National Sports University in the name of another village (as Haraothel),” it stated.

Further, it stated that despite running from pillar to post investing every effort by submitting memorandums, representations etc. for justification, the petitions of the rightful owner of the land went unheard all these years. The rights and privileges of the original owner of the project site have been completely ignored and denied which is unfortunate and painful, it added.

The state police opened several rounds of fire using sophisticated weapons, used tear/smoke bombs against the peaceful protestor of Konsakhul Village on Friday, injuring at least two women, it stated. “Such draconian discharge of duties is unwelcoming at this age. We condemn the high handedness of Manipur police,” the joint statement added.
