In view of the increase in critical injuries and deaths due to non-compliance of road safety norms, Ukhrul Police began its road safety drive in the district headquarters.
To educate people about the often neglected road traffic safety rules and to address the menace of vehicle lifting, Ukhrul police started checking bikes and vehicles without proper registration numbers in the town. Besides, vehicles with ‘tinted film’ were strictly checked and made to remove on the spot.
District sub-inspector Shining Thumra, who led the drive on road traffic, safety told IFP that the main mission of the operation is to educate people about road safety.
"Nobody can predict when an accident can happen. Many people have fallen prey and got themselves seriously maimed as they do not follow road safety,“ Thumra said.
Many riders who did not wear helmets were detained and instructed to wear helmets, he added.
