Manipur to bring pigs imported from UK, says minister Lukhoi Singh

The minister made the announcement to bring imported pig from the UK to Manipur while visiting various livestock and dairy farms in Imphal West, Imphal East and Kakching districts on Sunday.

Pigs imported from the United Kingdom for rearing are now in Punjab and they will be brought to Manipur after the cases of African Swine Fever (ASF) are fully controlled, state Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Services Minister Oinam Lukhoi Singh said on Sunday.

The minister made the announcement while visiting various livestock and dairy farms in Imphal West, Imphal East and Kakching districts on Sunday.

The minister first visited Porompat Dairy Plant, Intensive Cattle Development Project (ICDP) Complex, Porompat followed by Marjing Pony Complex, Pangei, Imphal East, Hiyanglam Piggery Farm and Regional Buffalo Breeding Farm, Wabagai, Kakching. During the field visit, the minister thoroughly checked the facilities and infrastructure being set up to ensure they are fully functional.

Briefing the media, Lukhoi said that the state government under the leadership of chief minister Biren Singh, is always committed towards the growth of the state economy in which the Animal husbandry and Veterinary department will continue to play a vital role.

Expressing satisfaction on observing the maintenance of the farms, Lukhoi also assured that the chief minister will be consulted to enhance the budget of the department for upgrading its facilities and infrastructures, and also improve the surroundings of the farms to prevent from emitting any harmful diseases from the animals.

Director, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Services, Manipur, Dr H Chaoba Singh, joint director Dr Nandakishore, officers concerned and officials of the department were also present during the visit.
