Voters should be responsible for conducting a free and fair election in the state and they should have the freedom to choose their own candidates, United Front Manipur (UFM) chairman Sapam Samungou said Sunday.

Samungou was speaking at Manipur Press Club in Imphal during the launch of a poster campaign which the UFM planned to conduct.

Samungou said if the present trend of receiving different kinds of help and assistance from the candidates by the voters before voting continues, the public will not be able to place their demands or raise their voices to the candidates when they are elected.

Different forms of help extended by the MLAs and ministers need not be circulated in social media or even get published in the media since it is the duty of MLAs and ministers as elected representatives to help the people, he said.

Corruption in the state can be reduced or even stopped if voters stand united and refuse to receive any kind of help from the candidates during the election, he added.

Samungou said the right time has come for the people to consider their future during the elections and while casting their votes.

UFM chairman also informed that the party will nominate its representatives in 10 assembly constituencies of the state in the next assembly election.

Voters day is celebrated on January 25 which is the day where the Election Commission of India was established in the year 1950, Samungou said.
