Manipur Speaker Y Khemchand condoles death of former MLA L Ibomcha Singh

Laishom Ibomcha Singh passed away on Saturday. He was 72.

Manipur Assembly Speaker Y Khemchand extended his condolence over the death of former MLA of Keishamthong Assembly Constituency L Ibomcha Singh who passed away on Saturday.

"I deeply condole the sudden demise of a noble and good natured politician. I also share with the grief of his bereaved family members, near and dear ones," Khemchand wrote in his condolence message.   

Ibomcha was was elected twice in Manipur Legislative Assembly representing Keishamthong AC. He was elected to the 8th Manipur Legislative Assembly on FPM ticket in 2002 and re-elected to the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly on NCP ticket in 2012.

During his school days, the 72-year-old was an active worker of the Socialist Party. He served as general secretary of Lucknow Manipuri Students Association.

Ibomcha practiced as an advocate till 1976 under Gauhati High Court and joined as under secretary in the Manipur Legislative Assembly in 1976.

He also served as the Law secretary and state election commissioner from 1994 to 2002.

Ibomcha was also awarded as the "Best Citizen of India" in 2005 by the International Publishing House, New Delhi.
