Manipur would be one of the best states in the country if government officials and leaders of the state fight corruption and avoid ‘sectoral’ or ‘communal’ mindset, said Chief Minister N Biren Singh during the 50th Statehood Day celebration held at 1st Battalion Manipur Rifles Parade Ground on Thursday.

Addressing the function as chief guest, Biren wished the people of the state for peace, unity and integrity. He also extended his gratitude and appreciation to people of the state for bagging top position among north-eastern states in ‘India Innovation Index 2020’ conducted by NITI Aayog.

“It is due to support and cooperation from government officials, my colleagues, NGOs, civil voluntary organisations and people of state that the state tops among NE states in Innovation Index 2020 which was declared yesterday. State had also received various other recognitions from different agencies. But this recent ranking given by NITI Aayog gives more confirmation with what has been achieved before,” the CM maintained.

He continued that Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished the state by giving a tag as ‘Manipur Powerhouse of Innovation and Sporting Talents’ is a pride for state.

Biren stated that the state has brought many changes in the last three and half years in terms of development and stability in law and order. But the existence of corrupt practices along with ‘sectoral or communal mindset’ among government officials and leaders of state has created hindrances in developmental process, he added.

“It is high time that leaders and government officials avoid the mindset of prioritising their own people or community. But rather garner the concept of ‘we’,” said Biren while appealing to the people to work with sincerity and dedication to reach out for development and welfare in every nook and corner of the state.

The CM further stated that the Centre has also admitted the changes brought in the state within some years. As such they are always ready to extend support for welfare of the state.

“Government of India has approved for construction of ‘Children Park’ in seven districts namely Ukhrul, Senapati, Churachandpur, Kangpokpi, Chandel, Jiribam and Tamenglong. And for the promotion of better healthcare service in rural and hill districts, 47 primary health sub-centres are going to be constructed soon under the minority department,” he added.

As education is one of the main focus areas of the present government, construction of the main building for Churachandpur Medical College with a capacity of 100 seats has been initiated. Besides this, the recruitment process for vice-chancellor and faculty of DM University will be taken up soon as it is approved in the cabinet meeting, he informed.

He also mentioned that Loktak Lift Irrigation system will resume its functioning effectively. A water body with an area of 435 acres will be developed at Lamphelpat under the funding of World Bank with a cost of Rs 560 crore.
