Books on Puya and history require an examination by a team of selected scholars before they are published, director of tourism department W Ibohal said on Sunday.

He was speaking at the book release function of ‘Ningthel Leima Tolomkhombada Thajaba’ written by Naoroibam Khamba. It was organised by Patriotic Writers Forum (PWF) Manipur at Ipudhou Marjing Khubam Ching, Imphal East.

Ibohal said that books on Puya and history are different from other works such as stories, novels, poems or dramas. Since Puya and history related books are closely tied to identity and culture, they will be used for reference in the future, he said. Therefore, the writers’ different ideologies may confuse or lead to conflicts in the future generations, he further said. So, the state government should keep a special team of scholars for review and examination to prevent such conflicts or confusion, he added.

He further said that he did not have the opportunity to study the history of Manipur during his childhood. But the history of our state is highly important and it must be studied to educate the future generations as well. The subject should be put in details into the school syllabus so that the students could study them, he added. The book was reviewed by scholar Sagolsem Lanchenba Meetei.
