Inmates test COVID-19 positive on last day of quarantine period

Coronavirus positive cases climb to 15 in Tamenglong district quarantine centres

The inmates at the Trinity Public School Tamenglong community quarantine centre were happy until the last day of their quarantine period when their test results were declared positive for COVID-19.

With 13 new positive cases, including a two-year-old child confirmed Wednesday night, the total number of positive cases in Tamenglong has now climbed to 15 excluding three positive cases from Jiribam and Imphal quarantine centre.

All 13 returnees have been immediately shifted to RIMS Imphal this afternoon for treatment. The crying of the quarantine inmates was heard at the centre. “Go and get treated, and return safely,” was the last words of the relatives and inmates.

The returnees were happy and content to go back home after facing several difficulties and hardship in their long journey to reach home and after spending their isolation period at the quarantine centre.

The happiness of completing the quarantine period and possibility of seeing their loved ones were short lived as they were taken to RIMS Imphal for treatment. Giving out the test results late has added to the woes of the returnees.

As many as 11 returnees from Delhi who are staying at community quarantine centre at Trinity public school Tamenglong and two returnees at Christian Grammar school community quarantine centres were tested positive for COVID-19 on the last day of their quarantine.

The two positive cases that had been undergoing treatment at RIMS Imphal w tested negative and released.

Tamenglong has now 926 returnees at 14 community quarantine centres, 607 at home quarantine and 10 returnees at Institutional quarantine centre.

District surveillance officer Tamenglong Dr Rachunlung Savior Kamei told the Imphal Free Press that all the 13 new positive cases are imported cases.

Till date, there has been no community transmission and there should not be panic among the public even if there are 15 positive cases in Tamenglong district, he said. 

All the 13 new positive returnees are not symptomatic and healthy. They are immediately shifted to RIMS Imphal for treatment, he added.
