Two women among four kidnappers arrested, two kidnapped rescued

The kidnappers demanded a ransom of Rs 50 lakh by using the victim’s mobile number.

Four kidnappers, including two women, were arrested on Thursday at Yairipok Lamkhai and one pistol along with ammunition siezed from their possession, Thoubal Police said.

The kidnappers were identified as Kangabam Jadumani Singh, 50, son of K Dijamani alias Tejamani Singh of Charangpat Mamang Leikai; Ninghtoujam Romajit Singh, 35, son of N Khomdon Singh of Bengi Makha Leikai; Thiyam Joyshree Devi, 45, wife of late Heisnam Robin Singh of Heirangoithong bazar, Imphal West and Nahakpam Meme Devi, 49, wife of N Narjit Singh of Charangpat Mamang Leikai.

According to the superintendent of police, Thoubal, S Ibomcha Singh, at around 4.30 pm on Wednesday, they received a report that one Birendra Saha, 40, son of Khilawan Saha of Bihar staying at Thangal Bazar near Kasturi bridge and one Sanjoy patel, 40, son of Arjun Choudhury of Bihar staying at Sani Mandir, Thangal bazar were kidnapped by some unknown persons on Tuesday.

The kidnappers demanded a ransom of Rs 50 lakh by using the victim’s mobile number and told the relatives to bring the ransom amount at Charangpat under Thoubal police station, it added.

A team of Thoubal district police along with women police, district intelligence branch (DIB), Thoubal and cyber crime unit district headquarter led by additional superintendent of police (Ops) Sachidananda Soibam and the district commando officer-in-charge launched a rescue operation, it stated.

As per intelligence input, the ransom amount was to be handed over at Yairipok Lamkhai, Thoubal and the kidnapper would come by a Bolero Jeep bearing registration number MN07D-2973 white in colour, the release said. As a part of the rescue operation, a team of cybercrime unit, district headquarters Thoubal was deployed at Charangpat area to find movement of the vehicle, it added.

The release further said that on Thursday at about 11.42 one Bolero Jeep bearing registration number MN07D-2973 white in colour was spotted at Charangpat Mamang Leikai. The vehicle was followed by the team and its movement was observed. Later, the vehicle was found being driven around Thoubal Wangmataba and returned towards Yairipok Lamkhai. Immediately, the police team intercepted the vehicle at Yairipok Lamkhai.

During search and verification, Joyshree, Meme and driver of the vehicle Romajit admitted that they came to collect ransom money for the kidnapped persons under the instructions of Jadumani. On further interrogation, they disclosed that the kidnapped persons are being kept at the house of Jadumani.

The release mentioned that the police team rushed to the house of Jadumani and rescued the kidnapped person while Jadumani was arrested. One 0.32 pistol was recovered along with one magazine and 5 live rounds from the spot along with six mobile phones.

The arrested persons along with seized items have been handed over to Thoubal police station for further necessary legal action, it added.
