‘Construct cold storage at every locality to store farmers’ produce’
Without upgrading the farmers’ conditions, the state government will not be able to bring development, CPI Manipur State Council secretary L Sotinkumar said at Bishnupur convention
The Communist Party of India (CPI) Manipur State Council on Sunday resolved to demand the state government to provide Bishnupur district with proper infrastructure, improve irrigation facilities of farmers, construct cold storage in every locality to store farmers’ produce and to make Loktak Development Project become fully fledged.
The resolutions were taken during the district convention held in Bishnupur district. A similar district convention was also held in Thoubal district.
Without upgrading the farmers’ conditions, the state government will not be able to bring development, CPI Manipur State Council secretary L Sotinkumar said at Bishnupur convention. However, farmers are being let down by the state government which has been giving more attention to businessmen instead.
The previous government had announced Bishnupur district as a full-fledged district, but the other districts which were also announced to become full-fledged districts at the same time have been upgraded while Bishnupur district has been left ignored, he said. CPI Manipur State Council is disappointed by such an act of the state government as Bishnupur district holds an important place in the state due to its Loktak lake.
A district headquarter is yet to be developed with proper infrastructure and farmers are yet to be upgraded from their condition even though they produce large amounts of vegetables, said state assistant secretary M Joykumar Luwang.
Former MLA, M Nara, while speaking at the convention held in Kakching district, urged the people to give power to CPI to save the farmers from facing a certain doom. The organisation has carried out various development works and they have directed Manipur towards a path to development, he said. It is people who can make the organisation powerful and strengthen it as well, he said.
