16 Assam Rifles hand over sewing machines to financially-affected women

Commander of Singjamei Post, 16 Assam Rifles, Keithelmabi, major Nikhil Jha distributed 10 sewing machines to 10 women of Keishamthong Elangbam Leikai.

As a part of civic action programme, 16 Assam Rifles handed over sewing machines to financially affected women, in a programme jointly organised by 16 Assam Rifles supported by Young Progressive Athletic Club (YPAC) at the community hall of Keishamthong Elangbam Leikai, Imphal West on Sunday.

During the programme, commander of Singjamei Post, 16 Assam Rifles, Keithelmabi, major Nikhil Jha distributed 10 sewing machines to 10 women of Keishamthong Elangbam Leikai, who are most affected financially due to COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking to IFP, one of the women beneficiaries, Ningthoujam Surbala said that organising such programmes to empower women is highly appreciated. She lauded 16 Assam Rifles for taking such initiatives as a part of the civic action programme.

Surbala also said that she has been taking care of her family by selling clothes and working on a daily wage basis. The sewing machine will help her immensely in better earning to feed her children and family, she added.
