Offices e-wastes collected, handed over to Karo Sambhav for recycling

Imphal East DC Khumanthem Diana Devi encouraged all the DLOs to comply with the guidelines of the E-Waste (Management) Rules 2016.

E-wastes of offices located in Imphal East DC office complex were collected and handed over for recycling at Panchayat Hall of the office complex on Tuesday.

The programme was held in pursuance to the notice issued on December 22 by the deputy commissioner of Imphal East in fulfillment of the E-Waste (Management) Rules 2016 and NGT order dated September 2, 2019 in O.A No.512 of 2018 with regard to monitoring compliance of E-Waste (Management) Rules in Imphal East.

Collection and handover programme of e-wastes of the offices located within Imphal East DC office complex to Karo Sambhav Private Limited was led by deputy commissioner of Imphal East, Khumanthem Diana Devi in presence of additional deputy commissioner of Imphal East, Shamim Ahmad Shah and heads of offices that are located within Imphal East DC office complex, Porompat.

E-wastes consisting of computer parts and other related electronic items were collected from SDO, Sawombung; district information officer, Imphal East; block development officers, Sawombung/Kshetrigao; chief executive officer, Imphal East Zilla Parishad; and director, RD and PR, Manipur. The e-wastes collected were handed over to Manipur State coordinator of Karo Sambhav, Neilangam Gangmei for further disposal or recycling.

The deputy commissioner of Imphal East emphasised on the need to have proper collection and disposal of the e-wastes through Karo Sambhav which is a Producer Responsible Organisation under Extended Producer Responsibility.

She also encouraged all the district level officers (DLOs) to comply with the guidelines of the E-Waste (Management) Rules 2016 by identifying collection sites at their offices and handover of same to Karo Sambhav for further proper disposal or recycling.

She instructed all DLOs to have awareness drive about the guidelines of E-Waste (Management) Rules 2016 among their staff, and comply with the same at their level. She emphasised on the need to have awareness programmes at all the villages under Imphal East about E-Waste (Management) Rules 2016 through elected representatives and concerned government officials.

She also highlighted the need to monitor and execute orders or by-laws related to E-Waste (Management) Rules 2016 under their jurisdiction for effective compliance of the same.
