“With Christmas just around the corner, I’m happy to share that the State Govt. has sanctioned Rs 38,850,000 for construction of 37 tribal museums in different parts of Manipur. These museums will play an important role in preserving the cultural heritage of Tribal communities,” Chief Minister N Biren tweeted on Wednesday.
The same was stated in a government release order by the commissioner of Art and Culture M Joy Singh.
The effort to build 37 tribal museums in different parts of the state is expected to help preserve the cultural heritage of diverse tribal communities in Manipur. The major tribal communities include the Tangkhul, Zeliangrong, Mao and Kukis among others.
It may be noted that the majority of the tribal communities in Manipur are Christians and Christmas is celebrated in a big way in the state.
