A review-cum-capacity building workshop of media fellow recipients of 2020-21 under the Directorate of Environment and Climate Change, Government of Manipur was held at the directorate conference hall in Imphal on Wednesday.

The workshop was organised by the media working group of climate change fellowship programme under the directorate. The fellow recipients of the 2nd ‘State Level media fellowship programme on Climate Change reporting in Manipur for 2020-21’ attended the occasion.

During the workshop, environmentalist Salam Rajesh reviewed the features written by media fellows in the last month and gave his suggestions in respect to the written features.

Senior journalist Irengbam Arun suggested giving a ‘best fellow’ award to the recipients on completion of the fellowship period. He advised the fellow recipients to focus on the reality of the stories they are writing on and try to draw international attention.

Senior journalist Pradip Phanjoubam suggested formulating a house style in the written features. And also if possible, the features published under the fellowship may be sent to international firms or agencies which are dealing on climate change, he said.

Sangai Express editor Khogendra Khomdram said that the fellows should “write the news after knowing the news.” The awareness that is being given through the features should be easily grasped and understood by the readers, he said.

Deputy Director of the directorate K Brajakumar said the main objective of the fellowship program is reaching the unreached people. The features should be in balance with suggestions collected from the expert opinions, he said. If there is anything required while writing the fellowship features, the climate change resource centre will help them, he added.

The workshop was attended by journalist Sobhabati Samom and official staffs of the Directorate of Environment and Climate Change.
