The Kuki Inpi Kangpokpi district after consulting with various civil bodies of the district has decided to impose an intense economic blockade along National Highway 2 from midnight of June 12 over the controversial National Sports University.

General secretary, Kuki Inpi Kangpokpi district Lamminlun Singsit alleged that members of Kuki Inpi Kangpokpi district and Vaiphei People's Council along with Kuki Women Union Sadar Hills were intentionally insulted by the chief minister during his visit to the National Sports University on Tuesday by instructing the security personnel to restrict them from meeting him at the spot.

Singsit continued, despite such extreme negligence and insult by the CM, we are trying hard to meet him as we consider negotiation would only bring solution to any problem” Finally through DC Kangpokpi, N Biren Singh conveyed them to meet at his Bungalow, he said.

“We decided to restrain ourselves from indulging in a destructive approach and went to meet him at his Bungalow when he left the National Sports University in the afternoon,” he added.

He lamented that much to their dismay, the same treatment was meted out to them by the chief minister as they were made to wait for hours even after submitting their details and names outside the gate. “When the situation became intolerable, we had to return back without meeting him,” he said.

The controversial National Sports University as agreed in the presence of YAS Minister Letpao Haokip is to be called National Sports University Haraothel, he said. However, the N Biren Singh government has always called it intentionally as NSU Koutruk breaching all the agreements, he alleged.

The issue is also still pending at the office of National Commission for Schedule Tribe as the state government under the leadership of N Biren Singh is yet to furnish the evidence sought by the commission years back, asserted Lamminlun Singsit.

He said that while the CM is very much aware of the controversial National Sports University, he has been always trying to bulldoze the matter without consulting all the stakeholders.

While condemning the alleged treatment he had meted out to the apex body and the civil bodies of the district, Lamminlun Singsit said, “We have come this far tolerating the ill-treatment of the Biren government especially in the controversial NSU issue and now we have decided not to endure any more of such treatment”.

He also said that we have decided to serve three days ultimatum to the State Government and resolved to impose intense economic blockade along the National Highway 2 in case the chief minister is not responding in a cordial and positive note.

Lamminlun Singsit pointed out that Kangpokpi district is the only hill district strongly restraining from extreme stir after the 123 days agitation in 2011 over Sadar Hills District-hood demand and “it will be very unfortunate if we are compelled to open up the doors of anger once again.”
