Under the Nasha Mukt Bharat campaign of the Union Social Justice and Empowerment Ministry, the ACME Higher Secondary School, Yairipok, Thoubal district in Manipur has been declared as ‘Drug Free Institute’ during an awareness programme
An awareness programme on Prevention of Substance and Alcohol Abuse was held at the campus of the institute on Monday.
The event was attended by principal of ACME Higher Secondary School, Yumnam Biren; member of Nasha Mukt Bharat Campaign Committee, Yumnam Laksman; secretary of School Management Committee, Haobam Bimolchand; and secretary of Social Action Development Organisation, Mandir Laishram as presidium members.
A total of 37 teacher staff and guardians participated in the programme by maintaining strict SOPs of COVID-19.
Mandir Laishram explained the key points of Nasha Mukt Bharat campaign while Haobam Bimolchand delivered a speech on the nature of children and how the behaviour of parents is important in the prevention of drugs and alcohol abuse.
Yumnam Laksman elaborated on what drugs are and their addictive nature. He further appreciated the ACME Higher Secondary School authority for maintaining a discipline that makes everyone in the school campus not to use drugs and other related substances.
Yumnam Biren said that the issue of drugs is a never-ending process. He exhorted the participants to apply the knowledge gained from the awareness programme and also appealed to all the parents to observe the behavioural change of the children and act accordingly.
The programme ended with the slogan ‘Eikhoi Nisha Thadoklasi (Let us give up drugs)’.
