Seityabhama Case: Two convicts sentenced to life imprisonment

The two convicts have been sentenced to life imprisonment with a fine of Rs 20,000.

The two convicts in the 2013 Seityabhama rape and murder case have been sentenced to life imprisonment with a fine of Rs 20,000.

Session Judge, Imphal East M Manoj Kumar on Monday sentenced Kshetrimayum Biju Meitei alias Hollendro, son of Ksh Ibochou of Thoubal Kshetri Leikai and Toijam Thesuch alias James Bond, son of Toijam Jugindro of Thambalkhong Sabal Leikai to life imprisonment with a fine of Rs 20,000.

The two were convicted under Section 120B, 302 and 376 of the Indian Penal Code in the 2013 Seityabhama rape and murder case.

The sentence awarded to both convicts will run concurrently. The fine paid from both the convicts should be deposited to the court to be given to the victim's family, the court directed. 

Further, the court has also recommended for providing compensation under Section 357A as per the Victim Compensation Scheme for Women Victims or survivors of sexual assault or other crimes, 2018 to the victim through her guardian.

The court had announced the conviction order on December 15. Another accused, Thoudam Jibal was acquitted from the case as the prosecution failed to provide substantive proof against him for committing a criminal conspiracy of eliminating the deceased with the convicted duo.

N Seityabhama, a Junior Research Fellow of Pathology department, RIMS was found murdered with bruise marks on her neck and body in a canal at Wangkhei Loumanbi Loukol, under Irilbung police station on April 5, 2013, a couple of days after she left from her Kakwa residence.

After completion of the investigation, the investigation officer of the case submitted the chargesheets under section 302 (Murder) and 120-B (common intention) before the Court. Charges were framed against the accused on November 20, 2013 under section 302 and 120-B IPC.
