COVID-19 testing at Imphal airport to discontinue

An order issued by the Principal secretary Health, Vumlunmang, said that COVID testing will be done for any symptomatic person and any traveller with a history of contact with COVID positive person will be tested.

COVID-19 testing of incoming air passengers at the Bir Tikendrajit International Airport Imphal will be discontinued from Friday.

An order issued by the Principal secretary Health, Vumlunmang, Thursday sated that the decision had been taken in a meeting of COVID Task Force on December 14. The order stated that the thermal screening surveillance will be made more vigorous by increasing the number of Screening Counters in Imphal Airport from 1 to 4.

It stated that targeted testing is not considered essential when the percentage of air passengers testing positive for COVID-19 has reduced to about one per cent and that the positivity rate is below two per cent.

Further the order stated that COVID testing will be done for any symptomatic person and any traveller with a history of contact with COVID positive person will be tested.
