The old complex of the vegetable market in the heart of Tamenglong town was dismantled to be replaced by a new market complex.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh is likely to lay the foundation stone of the new market during his visit to Tamenglong in January 2021.
Autonomous District Council Tamenglong Small Town chairman Charles Liangdiang who monitored the dismantling, told the Imphal Free Press that every preparation has been done. Once the foundation stone is laid, construction will go on at full pace for completion of the work at the earliest, he said.
All vegetable vendors have been shifted to the new Rani Gaidinliu Women's Market, Tamenglong.
It may be mentioned here that following the exposure by the Imphal Free Press regarding incomplete retaining wall and lack of toilet block, the contractor has completed the retaining wall after the inauguration of Rani Gaidinliu Women's Market Tamenglong.
Biren had launched a pilot project during his visit on November 15, 2017, and laid the foundation stone for a water supply scheme to be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 40 crore. Foundation stones for construction of 5,000 MT Food Corporation of India Godown, transit accommodation for doctors and teachers and Rani Gaidinliu Women’s Market were laid by him.
However, only Rani Gaidinliu Women's Market Tamenglong is said to be completed. The rest remained far from completion.
