Meghalaya: First COVID-19 case reported in Ri Bhoi

Deputy Commissioner of Ri Bhoi, R M Kurbah appealed to the people not to panic while assuring that all the necessary preventive steps are being taken up.

In spite of the continued efforts to stop the spread of COVID-19, Ri Bhoi district of Meghalaya has reported its first COVID-19 positive case on Tuesday.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Ri Bhoi R M Kurbah confirmed the development during a briefing at her office chamber at Nongpoh on Tuesday.

“The infected person is somewhere in the village which falls under the jurisdiction of Umsning C&RD Block, Ri Bhoi district,” Kurbah said while adding that everything as per the laid down protocols is being done to ensure that the virus does not spread.

She further informed that as soon as the first positive case of COVID-19 was reported in the district, contact tracing is being made to trace out the people who are close with the infected person and that all such persons will be sent for quarantine.

Meanwhile, Kurbah has also appealed to the people of the district not to panic while assuring that all the necessary preventive steps are being taken up by the district administration and the health department.
