A rifleman in 5th IRB was on Tuesday sent to police custody by the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West for four days under section 376/210-B IPC on charges of allegedly raping a differently-abled girl who claims to be his girlfriend.
The accused rifleman Khaidem Bishorjit, 33, son of K Kunjeshwor of Yairipok Khoirom Leikai was arrested by Lamphel police on Monday at 12.20 pm in connection with the FIR lodged by the police through a complaint made by the victim.
The 20-year-old girl from Imphal East district reportedly was in a relationship with the rifleman after becoming friends through social networking platform Facebook. The incident happened allegedly on their first meeting.
The victim on her complaint stated that she was picked from NR road of Bamon Kampu Awang Leikai by the rifleman in his car on December 7. He took her to hotel Imoinu located at MG Avenue and forcibly raped her at about 8 pm at the hotel, she alleged. They stayed for one night at the hotel and on the following day at about 7.30 am, he left her abandoned near Dental College, RIMS hospital by telling that he will marry her.
It was revealed during police investigation that they became friends on Facebook and became acquainted with each other through online for about a year, and they used to talk frequently on the phone.
The police report stated that they decided to meet for the first time on December 7. At 2pm, they went for a drive in the rifleman’s car and went to hotel Imoinu where they spent the night, it stated.
The rifleman allegedly raped her at the hotel, it added.
Medical examination of the victim was done at RIMS.
The police report also stated that the rifleman admitted that he already has two wives and four children. He knows that the victim is physically challenged. So, he took the advantage and raped her by taking her inside the hotel without her consent, the police report stated.
The rape accused was produced before the court with a prayer of four days police custody till December 19 for smooth investigation.
