CM Biren condoles demise of musician Wahengbam Samson

Samson was truly an inspiration to young musicians and music lovers. His passion and knowledge of music were well reflected in his compositions and performances on the stage, CM Biren said in his condolence message.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh condoled the sudden death of musician Wahengbam Samson on Sunday.

In his condolence message, Biren stated “I am deeply aggrieved to learn about the sudden demise of legendary guitarist, musician and composer Wahengbam Samson at the age of 67.”

He further said that born on January 3, 1953, at Wahengbam Leikai, Samson was the undisputed leader in playing guitar during the 1980s and 1990s in the state. Known for his versatility, he had unparalleled capability to handle guitar for any genre. Samson was truly an inspiration to young musicians and music lovers. His passion and knowledge of music were well reflected in his compositions and performances on the stage.

Samson was also known for his contributions towards popularisation of Manipuri music. He had served Apunba Manipuri Matam lshei Kanglup (AMMIK), the apex body of musicians and singers of Manipur, in different capacities till his last breath. He was also the founder member of popular group, Roop Raag, the CM added.

“In his demise, we have lost a legendary musician, who always worked towards the promotion of Manipuri culture and music. His demise is an irreparable loss to our music industry. I convey my deepest condolence and share grief with the bereaved family, and join the family in prayer for peace to the departed soul,” Biren said.
