COVID-19 in Manipur: Positive cases rise to 304 as 32 more test positive

Manipur now has 243 active COVID-19 cases.

The total number of COVID-19 positive cases in Manipur rose to 304 as 22 more people, in addition to the 10 cases reported earlier in the day, tested positive for the virus, state health department said on Tuesday.

State health department spokesperson Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang said in a release that of the 22, nine are males and 13 are females. All of them are Delhi returnees, he stated.

Of them, Kangpokpi district reported 22 cases while the other two cases were reported from Chandel district.

They were confirmed at the Virus Research and Diagnostic Laboratories (VRDL) of the JNIMS in Imphal.

Earlier in the day, 10 new cases, one male and nine females, were found positive for COVID-19. Noney district reported nine cases while Kamjong district reported one case, Dr Mangang said in a release.

Eight of them, four from each from Delhi and Kerala, had recently returned to the state. The other two cases are Bengaluru and Mumbai returnees, Dr Mangang stated, adding they were confirmed at the VRDL of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Imphal.

They will be shifted to Covid Care facilities in Imphal. The concerned district authorities have taken up all necessary precautionary measures, the spokesperson added.

With the new detections, the total number of COVID-19 active cases increased to 243.

Meanwhile, six active case undergoing treatment in RIMS were tested on Monday and found COVID-19 free on RT PCR test. They are being discharged on Tuesday. They will remain under home quarantine for the next 14 days, Dr Mangang stated.

With the new discharged cases, the total number of recovered cases in the state increased to 64 on Tuesday, the state health department said.

The state health department stated that social distancing and wearing of face mask are very effective non-medical means to prevent the spread of COVID- 19 and reiterated that public, including quarantine centre inmates should adopt these to protect themselves and others from COVID-19.

On Monday Manipur recorded highest single-day spike with 63 new cases, taking the total number of COVID-19 cases in the state to 272.
