Manipur's COVID-19 caseload climbs to 26,859; death toll 320

COVID-19 claimed two more lives in Manipur on Friday.

Manipur's COVID-19 caseload surged to 26,859 with 174 new positive cases, while the death toll mounted to 320 as COVID-19 claimed two more lives in a span of 24 hours, the state health department said on Friday. 

Of the total caseload in the state, 2,998 are active cases, while 23,541 persons have recovered from the viral infection, according to a release issued by the state COVID-19 Common Control Room.

The new positive cases included 136 persons from the general population and 38 personnel from the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF), the release stated.

The positive cases from general population are from Imphal West (45), Imphal East (41), Thoubal (8) Bishnupur (12), Kakching (2), Tamenglong (5), Tengnoupal (4), Chandel (2), Kangpokpi (3), Senapati (2) and Churachandpur (12). All are locals without any significant travel history. All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, it added.

The state health department stated that two new COVID-19 fatalities were from Imphal East who died at JNIMS Hospital.

Meanwhile, the recovery rate stood at 87.64 per cent with 144 new recoveries on Friday, it added.

The state health department further advised those in contact with a COVID-19 positive person to isolate themselves. In case of emergency, one can dial 24x7 Covid Common Control Room Number-1800-345-3818.
