Two Manipur Students’ Association Delhi (MSAD) executives, who have been arrested by a combined team of Manipur police and Delhi police on Tuesday from Chanakyapuri New Delhi, were brought to Imphal on Thursday.
The arrested executives of MSAD landed at the Bir Tikendrajit International Airport Thursday afternoon with a team of Manipur police.
They have been identified as secretary-general MSAD Singhajit Thokchom and its organisation secretary Kenedy Moirangthem.
Police said Singhajit and Kenedy were arrested in connection with a press statement issued by the student body on November 20 strongly reacting against Education minister, S Rajen’s announcement that Sanskrit language will be introduced in selected schools and colleges of Manipur. They were slapped with section I53A/504/505(2)/34 of IPC.
It is learnt that the MSAD executives were arrested particularly in connection with 153A for promoting or inciting communal hatred against a community.
MSAD, in its statement, vehemently criticised the governments terming the proposed introduction as an attempt to impose Sankrit in Manipur in the interest of a particular group.
The complaint against the student body was reportedly lodged by a group based in Imphal. The arrested leaders of MSAD will be produced before a court in Imphal for custodial remand.
