Sit-in protest staged against bomb attack in residential area at Nongmeibung in Imphal East

The bomb attack was carried out by some miscreants around 7:15 pm Tuesday at the residence of one Wangkheirakpam Ongbi Sunitibala at Nongmeibung Wangkheirakpam Leikai, Imphal East under the jurisdiction of Porompat police station.

Decrying the bomb attack in a residential area in Imphal East, members of the Nongmeibung Women Development Meira Paibi Association and the Eastern Students Club, Nongmeibung staged a sit-in protest at Nongmeibung Wangkheirakpam Leikai, Imphal East on Wednesday.

According to the police, the bomb attack was carried out by some miscreants around 7:15 pm Tuesday at the residence of one Wangkheirakpam Ongbi Sunitibala at Nongmeibung Wangkheirakpam Leikai, Imphal East under the jurisdiction of Porompat police station. The miscreants behind the incident is suspected to be some valley-based militant outfit.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the protest, secretary of Nongmeibung Apunba Meira Paibi Nongmaithem ongbi Sobita expressed strong condemnations of the bomb attack in a residential area. The people of Nongmeibung area have been living in peace and harmony for a long time but the incident has caused panic among the people, she contended.

“If there is some misunderstanding, it could have been solved through dialogue and negotiations instead of attacking with bomb,” she said and demanded that the miscreants clarify why the attack was carried out. 

She further said that people of the area want peace and urged against similar unwanted incidents in the future.

Protesters held placards that read - “We condemn bomb attack within the congested area”, “the miscreants should clarify immediately”, “we want peace” among others.
