Chief functionary of WAD, Sobita Mangsatabam said that God created man and woman with the same love and care, and the governing bodies should give the same right to both
The 18-Day Activism on Gender Based Violence (November 25 to December 12) in connection with the International Human Rights Day and Nupi Lan was held at Ima Kondong Lairembi Haraobung, Moreh on Tuesday.
The observance was organised by Women Action for Development (WAD), Centre for Social Development, Moreh, Kha Nongpok Apunba Nupi Lup, Nupi Khunai Chaokhat Lamjing Lup and Muslim Women Devt Association, Moreh.
The programme was attended by chief functionary of United NGO Mission Manipur (UNMM), U Nobokishor; vice-president of Kha Nongpok Apunba Nupi Lup, H Ibecha Devi; and vice-president of Nupi Khunai Chaokhat Lamjing Lup, Moreh, T Premabati Devi as dais members.
Chief functionary of WAD, Sobita Mangsatabam said that God created man and woman with the same love and care, and the governing bodies should give the same right to both. However, the law enforcement agencies have failed to implement these rights, she added.
“According to the latest census reports, the gender birth rate of male per female is 1,000 per 757. Every parent gives more importance to baby boys than girls and this is gender-based violence. So far, 134 cases of violence against women for the year 2020 are registered,” Sobita said.
Nobokishor said that during the period of British rule, women took a great role to safeguard the human rights and integrity of the state. To get every right of women, there must be proper functioning of court, police station and medical facility, he stated. If there is any violence against women, one can contact the human rights organisation, he added.
