All Manipur Students Union (AMSU), Manipur Students Federation (MSF), Democratic Students Association Manipur (DESAM), Kangleipak Students Association (KSA), Students Union of Kangleipak (SUK) and Apunba Ireipakki Meheiroi Singpanglup (AIMS) demanded that the government should not allow any of the doctors to treat patients without conducting the COVID-19 tests for them.

Speaking on behalf of the six students union, in a video released by the students, president of MSF Sazad Bhuyaimayum said that every individual who enters the state should undergo COVID-19 test.

Since the possibility of the doctors becoming carriers of the disease cannot be ruled out, there is a high risk involved in the matter, he stated. If the said doctors treat the people and later turn out to be carriers of the disease, the state government should be held responsible for the outcome. If such situations arise, the student bodies will not remain a silent spectator, he added.

Informing that the student bodies had earlier reacted and opposed the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) issued by the state government to allow home quarantine to returnees by flight, he said that the number of positive cases would have been much more than the present if the returnees were allowed home quarantine.

It is unfortunate that the state government officials and a member of legislative assembly did not follow SOP but the state government failed to initiate any action against them, said Sazad.  The state government should procure more testing kits and machines at the earliest in order to conduct smooth and faster testing of the samples, added the MSF president.

Condemning the incident at Waikhomani Girls Hostel quarantine centre, Thoubal on June 8 wherein inmates broke the gate, he alleged that the inmates might have reacted in such a manner only if the authorities were involved in misconduct, he said.
