Mount Koubru is for indigenous people and not for immigrants, said Federation of Haomee Youth Wing general secretary Nameirakpam Mapari Meitei in Imphal Saturday.
"Mount Koubru is for indigenous people and not for immigrants; the immigrants who are inhabiting in and around the mountain area should leave immediately," said Nameirakpam while speaking to media persons on the sideline of a sit-in-protest held near Tangkhul Baptist Church, Chingmeirong, Imphal.
The federation leader also said that no immigrants can settle at Mount Koubru as the mountain belongs to the indigenous people of Manipur.
The protesters held placards that read ‘Historic God Koubru, Supreme owner of Koubru Ching’, ‘Lai Ikon: No relation with Christianity’, ‘Koubru for indigenous people not for immigrants’, ‘We want our indigenous heritage’, ‘No Zale’n-gam land in Manipur’, ‘Remove KNFP camp from Koubru’, ‘No SoO with foreign extremist, Modiji’ and others.
Earlier, a protest was demonstrated at Mount Koubru, Kangpokpi district against the plan for laying a foundation stone for construction of a religious temple by Mahousa KNBA Lup. The Committee on Protection and Preservation of Mount Koubru (COPPK) had also informed the general public that no church, temple or mosque should be constructed at Mount Koubru.
