Mock drill on disaster management held at Churachandpur

A team of 12th Battalion NDRF of Imphal West and district administration jointly conducted a mock exercise on earthquake scenarios at DTC hall, Churachandpur district. Various civil voluntary organisations from Pherzawl and Churachandpur districts took part in the mock drill.

The team conducted the exercise under the supervision of assistant commandant Sh Sanjay Prasad Sharma and the team was led by Inspector H Johnson Hmar.

During the mock drill, several search and rescue techniques were demonstrated such as line search and hailing search techniques, followed by first aid techniques such as dressing, bandaging and splinting.

As a part of the demonstration, the team evacuated two live-trapped victims using three hands techniques, followed by CSSR techniques and using stretchers from under the collapsed structure. Further, the team also evacuated two live-trapped victims from the terrace using rope rescue techniques.

After the mock drill, the team of NDRF led all the stakeholders and participants to take COVID-19 pledge. The mock drill was also attended by the respective DCs and top officials from the police, fire department and medical department.

While speaking on the importance of mock drill, inspector Johnson said that the main aim was to seek cooperation and coordination from various stakeholders to avert any major problem in the time of disaster.

Delivering the vote of thanks to the NDRF, additional SP Lourence Munluo said that unless people are prepared, everyone is vulnerable as disaster can strike anytime and preparation is the best way to check any eventualities.
