Manipur: Two arrested along with arms and ammunitions

The two arrested persons and the recovered arms and ammunition have been handed over to Heingang Police Station and Yaingangpokpi Police Station respectively for further investigations.

Two different combined teams of Imphal East district commando and 15 Assam Rifles have arrested two persons in two separate operations on Tuesday and one of them is from a proscribed militant group, Liberation Tribal Tiger.

Speaking to media in a press conference held at the conference hall of superintendent of police, Imphal East, SP Jogeshchandra Haobijam said the two arrested persons have been identified as Khuptinthang Khongsai, 37, son of Lunpao Khongsai of Saikul Lajang Veng, Kangpokpi district and Phungreiso Masangva, 48, son of (Late) Luisang Masangva of New Cannan village, Ukhrul district.

He said that a combined team of Imphal East commando and a column of 15 Assam Rifles have been conducting counter insurgency operations in different areas of Imphal East district in order to minimise the activities of the anti-social elements.
The operation was conducted under the guidance of Jogeshchandra and supervised by DSP of Imphal East, Kh Herojit, he added.

Khuptinthang was arrested along with one 9 mm pistol along with a magazine loaded with seven live rounds from his possession on Tuesday at around 4 pm. Later, the combine team conducted another operation at Yaingangpokpi bazaar and Phungreiso was arrested along with one 0.32 pistol marked as ‘Made in Italy, Reg 35739’ along with magazine loaded with two live rounds from his possession at around 6:10 pm on the same day, Jogeshchandra said.

The SP said the two arrested persons and the recovered arms and ammunition have been handed over to Heingang Police Station and Yaingangpokpi Police Station respectively for further investigations.
