Manipur: Police continues search operation

Imphal West SP K Meghachandra said that various unwanted activities, including planting of bombs and gun firings at residential areas have been increasing.

To control the frequent occurrence of unwanted activities by certain militant groups, cordon and search operations will be continued in the coming days, said Imphal West SP K Meghachandra while speaking to the Imphal Free Press over the phone on Sunday.

Meghachandra said that various unwanted activities, including planting of bombs and gun firings at residential areas have been increasing, taking the advantage of the COVID-19 pandemic. To control such unlawful acts, the district police have been conducting cordon and search operations widely in the district and will be continuing to maintain law and order, he added.

As a part of the initiatives by the district police, frisking and checking were seen during the night time along the inter-district roads and streets of Imphal city.

Meanwhile, a team of commando, Imphal West has conducted house to house operation at Kwakeithel Heinoukhongnembi area on Sunday from 5:15 am to 7:30 am. During the operation, around 100 houses were searched and about 300 individuals were verified. Four surrendered individuals of proscribed PREPAK and PLA were also verified and they were found to be leading normal lives.

No person was detained during the operation which was conducted under the supervision of additional SP (Ops).
