People Task Force for COVID-19 (PTFC-19) has appealed to the Manipur government to declare a health emergency in the state and take up stringent measures to tackle further spread of COVID-19 in the state.

PTFC-19 publicity and propaganda in charge M Anganmba Meitei on Saturday said in a statement that the number of positive cases and deaths is increasing. As such, the state government should review the SOP and take necessary steps to prevent community transmission to reduce the death rate.

The state government should constitute an expert team to find out the reasons for the increasing mortality rate caused by COVID-19. Apart from COVID-19 patients, treatments of other diseases should also be given priority in all the health clinics and hospitals, Meitei said.

The recent COVID-19 video conference on review meeting chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra in presence of chief ministers of the states resolved that each state should take the responsibility to contain the spread of the virus in their respective states.

However, in Manipur the number of positive cases and the mortality rate is increasing. This is a tell-tale sign of loopholes in the state government’s effort to fight the pandemic, Meitei stated.
