A team of Mayang Imphal Police Station has rescued a night heron bird which was trapped at the electric wire hanging in front of the SBI office at Mayang Imphal on Friday morning.
It is believed that the bird had freed itself from a net which was kept by miscreants. It was tangled at the wire with a rope being carried by its leg.
The bird was taken down safely by the police team along with members of Joint Coordination Committee on Wildlife and Biodiversity (JCCWB) including its general secretary of Arapti branch, H Santosh and released at its habitat area later.
JCCWB has extended gratitude to the Manipur police for taking part in protecting and safeguarding the wildlife animals and birds.
The committee has warned that the perpetrators who are doing business by trapping birds and poaching animals using guns will not be spared, and they will be given befitting punishment as per law of the country.
