'Good practice of farming needed for good quality agricultural products'
MLA and advisor to CM, Sapam Ranjan said setting up of cold storage would be completed soon in order to preserve perishable agricultural products.
Farmers in Manipur need to follow good practice of farming for the state to produce good quality agricultural and other products, MLA and advisor to the chief minister, Sapam Ranjan said in Imphal.
Ranjan was speaking at the one-day 'Training of officers/officials/training of farmers on GAP, GCAP and primary processing of aromatic and medicinal plants' held on Wednesday at the Horticulture department, Khonghampat, Imphal.
Ranjan said though many medicinal and aromatic plants are found in Manipur, due to the lack of marketing facilities and awareness on the sustainability of the products, most of them have been rendered useless since decades. If the medicinal and aromatic plants found in the state are not maintained properly then they will become endangered, he said.
Farmers need to be aware of the scientific and indigenous type of farming in order to produce out good quality products, he added.
Ranjan also said the setting up of cold storage would be completed soon in order to preserve perishable agricultural products. "To bring good production, farmers need to motivation and cooperation from experts and they should know how to prepare the soil for good production," he added.
The training programme was jointly organised by the state medical plants boards (SMPB), Manipur, Directorate of AYUSH and state Horticulture Mission and the state department of horticulture and soil conservation.
