Manipur's COVID-19 death toll climbs to 245; confirmed tally crosses 24000-mark

Manipur recorded five COVID-19 deaths on Wednesday, pushing the total death toll to 245.

Manipur's COVID-19 death toll rises to 245 as five more persons succumbed to the viral infection on Wednesday and the confirmed tally has crossed the 24000-mark, the state health department said.

The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases is now 24,133 (General Population 21,061 and Central Security Personnel - 3,072) as 192 more persons, including seven new COVID-19 cases detected during the Targeted Testing in Wangoi and Wangjing assembly constituencies and one Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) personnel, were confirmed as new COVID19 positive cases, according to a release issued by the state COVID-19 Common Control Room.

The new positive cases from the general population are from Imphal West - 69, Imphal East - 77, Thoubal - 13, Bishnupur - 11, Tamenglong - 2, Churachandpur - 9, Senapati - 2, Kamjong - 4, Chandel - 1 and Kangpokpi - 2. All are locals without any significant travel history. They are being shifted to the Covid Care facilities. All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, the release stated.

Manipur recorded five COVID-19 deaths in a day, pushing the total death toll to 245. The new fatalities included a 57-year-old male from Churachandpur, a 39-year-old male and a 44-year-old male from Imphal East, a 55-year-old female from Bishnupur and a 70-year-old female from Imphal West. Of them, two died at Shija Hospital while three died at the JNIMS hospital, the release stated.  

While there are 3,248 active cases (General Population 2,940 and Central Security Personnel - 308), the cumulative number of recovered cases in the state climbed to  20,640 as 115 more patients recovered from COVID-19 on Wednesday. The recovery rate is 86.07 per cent.

Those in contact with a COVID-19 positive person have been advised to isolate themselves. In case of emergency, one can dial 24x7 Covid Common Control Room Number-1800-345-3818, the state health services stated. One can also avail online teleconsultation by government doctors from home (10 am to 3 pm every day except on Sunday) by downloading eSanjeevaniOPD app at Google Play store or go to the website -  www.esanjeevaniopd.in.
