Woman among three arrested; drugs, tobacco products seized in Thoubal

One Ibecha, 29, wife of Md Rafijuddin was arrested along with one carton box packet containing 35 "Bolirex" (cough syrup) bottles of 100 ml which were kept concealed under the bed and two Samsung mobile phones from her possession.

Three persons, including one woman, were arrested on two different occasions in Thoubal district of Manipur by the state police. Contraband drugs and imported tobacco products were seized from their possessions, police sources said.

Following a tipoff on the selling of contraband items on Tuesday at about 4.10 am, a combined team of district police comprising officer-in-charge, Lilong, women police and commando, Thoubal rushed to the residence of one Md Rafijuddin alias Rafi, 42, son of Haji Karimuddin of Lilong Turel Ahanbi Ubakthong Mathak, Thoubal district, police said.

During the search and verification, one Ibecha, 29, wife of Md Rafijuddin was arrested along with one carton box packet containing 35 "Bolirex" (cough syrup) bottles of 100 ml which were kept concealed under the bed and two Samsung mobile phones from her possession.

A regular case under FIR No 112 (11) 2020 LIL PS u/s 21(b)/29/25 of the NDPS Act has been registered against the accused.

Meanwhile, on Monday at about 9 pm, a combined team of district commando, Thoubal along with a team of Nongpok Sekmai police station seized 17,300 packets of Ruili River foreign-made cigarette made from a special blend of finest Virginia Tobacco and 8460 packets of Djarum Black 20 MYA made in Kudus, Indonesia from Mayai Keithel while conducting frisking and checking.

The tobacco items were recovered from the possession of one Md Amin Khan, 40, son of late Md Hassam of Yairipok Malom Maning Leikai and Thotreichan Shinglai, 28, son of late Homi Shinglai of Somrei village. The tobacco items were found in two white Gypsy vehicles bearing registration number MN07- 4406 and MZ 01B-2958.

The two detainees along with the seizures have been handed over to the superintendent of customs preventive force, Pallel for taking necessary legal actions.
