Joint demarcation of NH-2 expansion after DC’s assurance

Village chiefs, affected landowners, members of AHLACCA and various CSOs leaders congregated at Gamgiphai to stop officials from Imphal West District Administration for the joint demarcation/survey before the joint meeting was convened by the Deputy Commissioner Kangpokpi.

The joint demarcation/survey in connection with the widening and improvement of Imphal-Kohima road along NH-2 within Kangpokpi District will go ahead after assurance from deputy commissioner who is also the Competent Authority for Land Acquisition (CALA).

A joint meeting was held on Monday between the CSOs of Kangpokpi under the aegis of Kuki Inpi Kangpokpi District, Asian Highway Land Affected Villages chairmen/chiefs Association (AHLACCA), Gamgiphai to Taphou Kuki executive members including private landowners whose land would be acquired by the Government for the expansion or upgradation work of NH-2(two lanes) to Asian Highway-1(four lanes) and representatives of NHIDCL was held today at Conference Hall, DC Kangpokpi.

The meeting chaired by DC Kangpokpi, Somorjit Salam and was also attended by SP Kangpokpi, Addl.SP Kangpokpi, staffs of deputy collector and a representative from SDO Saitu Gamphazol.

According to Thangkholun Haokip, chairman AHLACCA (Gamgiphai to Taphou Kuki), in the joint meeting on behalf of the association it executive member Lunseh Kipgen who is also the chairman of Kangpokpi Town Committee deliberated on the matter for which the meeting was convened by the and clearly mentioned how the people’s sentiment was affected and how they have apprehension after a joint field demarcation/survey order was issued by DC Imphal West.

He continued that the joint meeting discussed the issue minutely and after lengthy deliberation and discussion the members and officers present in meeting unanimously arrived at various points of agreements and resolutions.

He also said that the DC Kangpokpi clarified regarding the apprehension felt by the village chiefs and landowners.

He further said that demarcation/joint survey for expansion of NH-2 is allowed to be executed after DC assured that all activities and steps for the proposed acquisition shall be carried out only through the CALA that is DC while clarifying that Imphal West officials shall only be assisting in the demarcation/survey.

Earlier, in the morning a mammoth of village chiefs affected landowners, members of AHLACCA and various CSOs leaders congregated at Gamgiphai to stop officials from Imphal West District Administration for the joint demarcation/survey before the joint meeting was convened by the Deputy Commissioner Kangpokpi.

Kangpokpi civil society organizations under the aegis of Kuki Inpi Kangpokpi District had strongly opposed the joint demarcation/survey and demanded that any such work deemed necessary shall only be executed by DC Kangpokpi in consultation with the CSOs of the District.
