The Moreh ICP Bypass road was jointly surveyed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the Asian Highway (AH) and the Development Corporation Ltd to appropriately compensate the people affected by the construction of the bypass road, said information and publicity secretary S Kuki on Sunday.

However, Tengnoupal district deputy commissioner Mayanglambam Rajkumar and former intending outer MP candidate Benjamin Mate in consultation with resident KNO PS Haokip misappropriated the funds and allowed to carry out the work for forceful eviction, he alleged.

Kuki said that despite the disbursement of compensation to the affected victims, chairman of Mate Tribe Union Jangthang Mate, chairman of Kuki Chief Association Seijang Baite and others, namely Thangpao Touthang and Tongpao Haokip have again embezzled the funds, the results of which was the hue and cry of the helpless victims.

Surprisingly, few of the “unsurveyed” lands of six Lamkang households, 13 Tengnoupal village households, one Chahmol village household, five Lokchao village households and few households around Moreh College were erroneously listed as affected victims and compensated by ignoring the compensation of the genuine affected victims, he said.

The aforementioned names should duly clarify to the public concerning the embezzlement of funds, cheating the public and ensure that those affected victims are appropriately compensated and rehabilitated at the earliest, the outfit said. The repercussions for failing to pay heed to the information would be the sole responsibility of the defaulters, it added.
