Manipur: COVID-19 death toll rises to 236

As many as 306 more persons tested COVID19 positive on Sunday

COVID-19 death toll in Manipur rose to 236 after three more persons succumbed to the viral infection on Sunday and the confirmed tally climbed to 23,400, the state health department said.

A total of 306 persons (167 males and 139 females) from the general population, including 23 new cases from Lilong and Wangjing assembly constituencies and 76 personnel from Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) were confirmed as new COVID19 positive cases in a day, according to a release issued by the state COVID-19 Common Control Room.

The new positive cases from the general population are from Imphal West- 127, Imphal East - 66, Thoubal -35, Bishnupur - 15, Kakching - 3, Chandel - 1, Ukhrul - 2, Tamenglong - 12, Tengnoupal -3, Churachandpur - 38, Senapati -2 and Kangpokpi - 2. All are locals without any significant travel history. They are being shifted to the Covid Care facilities. All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, the release stated.

The COVID-19 victims on Sunday were - a 61-year-old male from Imphal West, 45-year-old male from Thoubal and 74-year-old male from Bishnupur who died at RIMS and Shija Hospital (2) respectively. With the new fatalities, the cumulative number of deaths is 236, while 205 more people have recovered.

The cumulative number of recovered cases is  20,018 (General Population 17,264 and Central Security Personnel - 2,754). The number of active cases is 3,146 (General Population 2.857 and Central Security Personnel - 289). The recovery rate is 85.54 per cent, the release added.

Meanwhile, the cumulative number of cases in home isolation in the state reached to 5,758, of which 4,850 persons have recovered while 908 are active.

Those in contact with a COVID-19 positive person have been advised to isolate themselves. In case of emergency, one can dial 24x7 Covid Common Control Room Number-1800-345-3818, the state health services stated.
