With the onset of monsoon season, concerned citizens of flood-prone Sangaikot subdivision of Churachandpur district in Manipur repaired a dilapidated road to prevent the area from being cut off.
Sangaikot Subdivision Chief Association along with volunteers from Salem camp of KNA/KNO, Shirou Leingoi Truck Owners Association and coordinated by chief of Henzol area, Henkhopau Haokip on Saturday repaired the road between Sangaikot and Khungnoi on Chura-Khuangkhai road.
An excavator, six tipper trucks and a tractor were used to repair the 13 km stretch of dilapidated road since morning. However, how long the road will hold depends on the rain, the chairman of the chief association Khupson told this correspondent. He said they did the work for the people of the areas as the road has been their lifeline and they got no help from the concerned authorities.
Khupson expressed concern over the lack of attention from the area authority or MLA concerned. More than 30 manual workers along with the equipment are working round the clock to prevent road disconnection, he added.
