A quarantine centre (second phase) for the border villages of Roni, Matiyang, Chamu, H Kaphung, Khayang, Phungtha and Kachouphung will be opened at IFAD Centre, Shirui Village by MLA of Ukhrul assembly constituency, Alfred Kanngam Arthur.
Since the border villages connecting road constructed under PMGSY from Shirui to Kachouphung is unfit for travelling, the MLA has taken the initiative of opening a community quarantine centre at Shirui village for the border villages.
Convenor of Rem Area COVID-19 Commitee, Soreishang Shangh, expressed appreciation to MLA Alfred Kanngam Arthur for the arrangement. He also expressed gratitude to MLA of Phungyar assembly constituency, Leishiyo Keishing for the provision of rice, salt, dal and bleaching powder for the quarantine centre.
The said quarantine centre will be made operational in a few days so as to accommodate the villagers who will be completing soon their 14-day community quarantine period.
Chief of Kachouphung Village, Dearson Zimik stated, “it is a great relief for the border villages. Since the road is not motorable, people from the border area are in dilemma on how to transport the returnees of Rem Area after their initial quarantine at Ukhrul Headquarter and Kamjong is over. This special arrangement by the MLA of Ukhrul assembly constituency has greatly lightened their burden".
The PMGSY road from Shirui to Kachouphung is in a pathetic condition. The portion between Shirui and Mapum is not motorable especially during rainy season, Sensing the suffering of the people, MLA Alfred Kanngam Arthur had repaired the road in a motorable condition by employing heavy machinery, informed Dearson Zimik.
The said PMGSY road is under investigation for faulty alignment. This issue has caused so much hardship to the people in border areas.
