To provide skill development programme to the transgender community, a one-day interaction programme on ‘LGBTI+ Inclusive in Skills Programme and Leadership’ was conducted at the head office of Ya_All, Sagolband Tera Sapam Leirak, Imphal on Thursday.

Speaking to media persons, chief operating officer-skills, State Skills Mission Manipur State Rural Livelihoods Mission (DDU-GKY), Kh Bobby Singh said that to provide skill development among the youths, more than 3,000 youths had been given training under DDU-GKY before the lockdown.

“Due to the lockdown, the training programme was stopped. As the training programme has resumed, we are now targeting to give training to the transgender community,” said Bobby.

He said that any person, who is under Below Poverty Line (BPL) within the age group of 18 -35, can join the training programme without any cost. As there is 70 percent mandatory placement, any transgender can get the opportunity, he added.

He further said that as most of the people are biased against the transgender community, the training programme will help the transgender people to start business for their livelihood.

A training centre exclusively for the persons with disability has also been launched recently at Tinsid Road and the target is to give training to 500 persons, Bobby said.
