People in Manipur pray for speedy recovery of Chief Minister N Biren from COVID-19

Members of the BJP Manipur unit on Thursday offered prayers and performed yegya at the goddess Kali temple at Babupara, Imphal and at the temple of Hiyangthang Leirenbi, Imphal.

Gathering together and lighting candles amid the cold evening, well-wishers from diverse communities in Manipur, including women and men, young and old, visited temples and offered prayers for the speedy recovery of Chief Minister N Biren Singh from COVID-19.

The chief minister announced in his social media post last Sunday that he tested positive for Coronavirus after he suffered headache and cough, but said he was fine.

On Wednesday, the Kabui tribe under the aegis of the Kabui Union observed a prayer meeting by performing Yelhing Thaba where a rooster is freed as an act of the ritual for the speedy recovery of the chief minister from COVID-19 at Lainingthou Koubru Suppa Surung, Kangpokpi district.

 “Good result will surely come within two-three days as the Yelhing Thaba shows positive signs. We also prayed for a long and healthy life for N Biren. As per the signs of the Yealhing Thaba, Biren will be holding his chief minister post for more than 15 years,” said Kabui priest Ningthouton Kabui, who performed the ritual, while speaking to the media.

A Yaipha Thouni Thouram was also observed by Meitei Leepun at the Laiyingthou Sanamahi Kiyong Hongba temple for the speedy recovery of Biren. The Thangal and Nepali communities also offered prayers for his speedy recovery at Ningthoupham and Kanglatombi respectively. The Gangte Tribe Union also prayed for the recovery of the chief minister.

The chief minister expressed his heartfelt gratitude in social media for praying for his recovery. On testing COVID-19 positive, he had urged the people who were in close contact with him to isolate themselves and get tested for COVID-19.
