Assam's Karbi Anglong-based organizations have “temporarily suspended the indefinite economic blockade” on Nagaland from Tuesday evening after it was imposed from November 17 morning.

The blockade was lifted after a joint meeting held on Tuesday between the deputy commissioners of Dimapur district of Nagaland and Karbi Anglong of Assam. The meeting was also joined by the commissioner of police of Dimapur district and officials from Karbi Anglong of Assam.

Following the development, goods transporters have resumed services since then.

It can be mentioned here that various Karbi Anglong based organizations alleged that there have been “illegal encroachments” of land in Karbi Anglong by people of Nagaland. The blockade was also imposed in protest against “the failure of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) and the Assam government to protect their land”, according to Karbi Students’ Association (KSA).

It can also be noted here that the Karbi Anglong based organisations demanded the Assam and Nagaland governments to "resolve the boundary issue and establish proper demarcation to avoid conflicts in future".
