The total number of COVID-19 positive cases in Assam surged to 2,397 as 73 more people tested positive for the virus, in addition to the 81 cases reported earlier in the day, state Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed on Saturday.
Of the new 73 cases, Dhubri district reported 21 cases, Dima Hasao 12, Goalpara six, five cases each from Hailakandi and Kamrup districts. Four cases each were reported from Airport, West Karbi Anglong and Golaghat districts. Dhemaji district reported three cases. While Cachar district reported two cases one each case were reported from Rangapara, Karbi Anglong, Nagaon, Charaideo, Karimganj, and Sivasagar districts, the health minister said.
"Alert ~ 73 new #COVID19+ cases. 21 Dhubri, 12 D'Hasao, 6 G'para, 5 H'kandi, 5 Kamrup, 4 Airport, 4 West K Anglong, 4 Golaghat, 3 Dhemaji, 2 Cachar, 1 each from MMCH, R'para, K Anglong, Nagaon, Charaideo, K'ganj, S'sagar," Sarma tweeted.
Of the new 81 cases confirmed earlier in the day, 40 were reported from Hojai, nine from Dhemaji, seven each from Barpeta and Nagaon, four each from Biswanath and Airport, three from Sonitpur. While Karbi Anglong and Tinsukia reported two cases each, Morigaon, Dibrugarh and Lakhimpur reported one case each, Sarma said.

Of the total 2,397 COVID-19 positive cases, 1,802 cases are active, Sarma informed.
Meanwhile, a total of 79 patients were discharged from hospitals on Saturday. With the new discharged cases, the recovered cases in the state increased to 588. Four patients have succumbed to the virus while three have migrated to other states.
On Friday, Assam reported 28 new COVID-19 positive cases, taking the total number of confirmed cases in the state to 2,243.
